Trump Creates New Development Assistance Agency to Counter China

President Trump has signed a bill establishing a new foreign investment agency that aims to facilitate $60 billion of private lending for infrastructure projects in developing nations. Some see this as a reversal for a president who campaigned on an “America First” strategy that proposed slashing funding for international assistance. As White House Correspondent Patsy Widakuswara reports, the move was done to counter China’s growing influence in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
